Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Cadenza (playcadenza.app), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

Service Description

Cadenza is a web-based piano learning application that provides interactive sheet music, MIDI input support, microphone-based pitch detection, and structured practice tools. The service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age to create an account and use Cadenza. If you are under 13, you may only use Cadenza with verifiable parental or guardian consent. By creating an account, you represent that you meet these age requirements.

Service Tiers & Pricing

  • Free Forever — Full song library, all practice modes, MIDI and microphone input, Course 1 (Beginner Fundamentals), and progress tracking.
  • Cadenza Premium — Everything in Free, plus Courses 2-5 (structured learning paths from intermediate to advanced). Available as:
    • Monthly: $9.99 USD/month
    • Yearly: $79.99 USD/year (save 33%)

Prices are in US Dollars and may be subject to applicable taxes. We reserve the right to change pricing with 30 days' notice to existing subscribers.

Billing & Payment

Premium subscriptions are billed through Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize Stripe to charge your payment method on a recurring basis (monthly or yearly, depending on your chosen plan). Your subscription will automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless you cancel before the renewal date.

Cancellation & Refunds

You may cancel your Premium subscription at any time from your Profile page or through the Stripe Billing Portal. Upon cancellation:

  • You retain access to Premium features until the end of your current billing period.
  • No partial refunds are issued for unused time in the current billing period.
  • Your account reverts to the Free tier when the billing period ends.
  • Your practice data and progress are preserved regardless of subscription status.

If you believe you were charged in error, please contact us at hello@playcadenza.app within 14 days of the charge and we will review your case.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Scrape, crawl, or use automated tools to extract data or content from Cadenza.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the application.
  • Use the service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' accounts or data.
  • Share, resell, or redistribute your Premium subscription access.
  • Interfere with the proper functioning of the service.

MIDI Files & Attribution

MIDI files used in Cadenza are sourced from piano-midi.de and are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 (CC BY-SA 3.0). Credit for MIDI performances goes to Bernd Krueger. MusicXML files are generated from these MIDI sources using MuseScore.

User Content

Any content generated through your use of Cadenza, including practice recordings, scores, and progress data, belongs to you. We do not claim ownership over your practice data or any content you create while using the service.

Modifications to the Service

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of Cadenza at any time, with or without notice. We are not liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the service.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Cadenza and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service.

Governing Law

These Terms of Service are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Quebec, Canada, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of Cadenza shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Quebec, Canada.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Your continued use of Cadenza after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms.
